The Bungalow

THE FACTS:  These are the Facts - please don't forget them.  Clearly, we will never forget them...
Fact 1) "it has lots of potential"
Fact 2) we are not afraid of a little blood, sweat, and tears
Fact 3) we will obviously love house remodeling
Fact 4) EVERYTHING IS COMPLETELY UNDER CONTROL

The very first time we saw The Bungalow, it wasn't even on the market yet.  Our realtor knew that it would be listed later that night and could get us in around 8 pm.  Knowing how quickly houses had been selling, I think both M and I got that feeling you have when you know a secret that no one else does... So we did what any reasonable couple would do and rushed over to peek in the windows.

Our first impression was that... (Fact 1)... "it has lots of potential".   The grass wasn't completely dead, it's not by the train tracks, it's AT LEAST 1 full block from a cemetery, and there weren't any dead animals to be seen.  All in all, The Bungalow was looking pretty good.

After seeing the interior with our realtor a couple hours later, we knew we had a big decision to make.  It was super cute, with a lot of the original "Old Town charm" still there and in good shape.  But, it was also clear that The Bungalow needed a LOT of work.  In the end, we decided that for the price, we could get two for one - both "charm" AND all the work we could ever want.  So, the very next morning, we submitted our offer for a full $1000 over asking price.  We were going all in.

For those of you interested, here's the blurb from the listing site to prove that we really were getting two for one:

"Cute, cute, cute! Call today to see this great little cottage! Tall ceilings, mud room, newer furnace, windows, and original wood trim throughout! Needs some TLC, but the price reflects. Not a short sale."

And some photos:

So, as you can see, " it has lots of potential".

Anyway, back to the offer and the day-long nail-biting that commenced.  Being only very very mildly obsessive, but at the same time completely normal, I of course checked my email and my phone approximately 1000 times over the course of the day.  It did not interfere in the slightest with any of my real work that day though.  Finally, around 4 pm I noticed that the listing site said that The Bungalow was "Pending"... a sure sign that someone else had made a better offer than we had since I hadn't heard from our realtor yet.  I was bummed and emailed our realtor to let her know what I had found.  Approximately 10 seconds after I sent the email, my phone rang.  It was our realtor and she wanted to inform me that OUR OFFER HAD BEEN ACCEPTED.  Huh???  What???  OMGosh, Holy Cow, Wowee...!!!  We were on our way to becoming owners of The Bungalow!  Little did we know exactly what that meant we'd be doing for the next month or so... More on that later!
